Groups.io: Changelog
October 30, 2026
Databases
- BUGFIX: In map view, a row whose address Google couldn't find was placed in the ocean off West Africa, which zoomed the whole map out to show it. Those rows are now left off the map and listed above the table, with links to each one. A table with a single address also zoomed in to rooftop level; it now stops at street level.
- BUGFIX: Importing a CSV file without a header line put values in the wrong columns when the table had an address or link column, because each of those takes several columns in the file. Files laid out the way Export Table writes them now import correctly.
Ask
- CHANGE: Searching a group's Files section was slow when the group had large documents, often adding several seconds before Ask could start answering. Ask now searches files much faster.
- CHANGE: Ask only read the first few pages of a long document, so when the answer was further into a long PDF, it said it couldn't find it. When there's room, Ask now reads more of long documents.
Billing
- BUGFIX: When a group switched billing periods and the cost was covered entirely by sponsorship funds, the invoice was saved without a payment, so it looked unpaid. These invoices are now recorded as paid by sponsorship.
- BUGFIX: When a trial group was set to move to the Free plan at the end of its trial, its billing page didn't say so. The Current Plan panel now shows the date the downgrade will happen.
Design & Accessibility
- CHANGE: The highlighted item in the left sidebar was a lighter blue than the top bar, so the two clashed. It now uses the same dark blue as the top bar.
- BUGFIX: Buttons that open a menu, like the Topics/Messages selector, had twice the usual gap before the button next to them. The spacing is now even.
Public Pages & Help
- CHANGE: The groups.io home page for visitors who aren't logged in opened with an oversized headline and a long block of text, with the customer logos buried halfway down. It's been redesigned: the headline, the Get Started and Log In buttons and the overview video now sit together at the top, followed by the customer logos, feature cards, success stories, the FAQ and a closing call to action. It also looks right in dark mode and on phones.
Site-wide
- BUGFIX: The captions on the color pickers for hashtags, events, database columns and a member's color were never translated. They now appear in the member's language once translations are updated.

Highlights
- We redesigned the calendar: event pages put the date, location and your RSVP first, the add and edit event page is reorganized, and the Responses page can be filtered by response.
- The site's colors, alerts, form text and panel headings were refreshed so they are consistent, easier to read and meet the WCAG AA contrast standard in light and dark mode.
- The Changelog page can now be filtered by area and type and searched, and this weekly email is organized by area.
- A new Default Event Color setting sets the color that new events in a group start with.
- Joining a subgroup of a subgroup now adds you to the subgroup above it in the same step, if that subgroup is open to new members.
Editor & Drafts
- CHANGE: When you click on a link in the editor, a small box appears with the link's address. Clicking into that box now selects the whole address, so pasting a new one replaces it. Click again to place the cursor in the address. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41479
- CHANGE: In the Insert/Edit Link window, the Title box is now called "Tooltip text (optional)". The text you enter there is shown when someone points at the link, for example "(Login to Groups.io required)". https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41479
- BUGFIX: When you pasted pictures into a message on the website, such as photos copied from another program, the message could be sent with grey "Uploading..." boxes in place of the pictures, and members receiving it by email got an attachment they couldn't open. Pasted pictures are now included in the message.
- BUGFIX: When you clicked a button in the editor's toolbar that opens a window, such as Insert/Edit Link, the cursor was put back in the message instead of in the window. You had to click into the URL box before you could paste a link. The cursor now starts in the window's first box, so you can paste a link and press Enter. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41479
Hashtags
- CHANGE: On a hashtag's settings page, the description of the Locked setting said that topics *created* with the hashtag would be locked, but topics are also locked when the hashtag is added to them later. It now reads "Topics will be locked when they are tagged with this hashtag. Topics that already have it are not affected." https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41333
Members
- CHANGE: The member list download on the Members page now includes a Profile Privacy column showing each member's profile privacy setting for the group:
profile_private(only owners and moderators),profile_membersorprofile_public. Previously, the only way to see who had made their profile visible to other members was to check the Directory from a non-moderator account. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41468 - BUGFIX: In the color menu on a member's page and on the Membership Defaults page, the No Color swatch was white with no outline, so it blended into the white menu and looked like an empty gap. It now has a thin grey outline, matching the Change Color dialog on the Members page. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41471
Group Settings
- BUGFIX: In dark mode, the box next to the group email address on the Settings page (showing "@groups.io") stayed light grey. It is now dark.
Subgroups
- CHANGE: Moderator notifications for a subgroup, such as pending messages, pending members, and new or departing members, started with only the subgroup's subject tag, so they looked as if they came from a separate group. They now start with the main group's subject tag followed by the subgroup's, for example "[main][sub]". The subgroup's own tag is unchanged, so email filters that look for it keep working. If a subgroup has no subject tag, nothing is added. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41318
- CHANGE: Joining a subgroup of a subgroup required already being a member of the subgroup above it. People who weren't were sent to that subgroup to join it first, then had to go back and join again. Now, if the subgroup above is open to new members without approval, you are added to it and to the subgroup you asked to join in one step. This works when joining on the website, by email, or by accepting an invitation. If the subgroup above requires approval or is invite-only, you still need to join it first.
