Groups.io: Changelog

Design & Accessibility
- CHANGE: The highlighted item in the left sidebar was a lighter blue than the top bar, so the two clashed. It now uses the same dark blue as the top bar.
- BUGFIX: Buttons that open a menu, like the Topics/Messages selector, had twice the usual gap before the button next to them. The spacing is now even.

Design & Accessibility
- CHANGE: The site's colors now belong to one family. Buttons, links, badges, page numbers, progress bars and menus used two slightly different blues; they now share one. Green and red buttons are a deeper, cleaner shade. Info buttons, which were a light cyan, are now the same blue as the other main buttons, and the Mod and Owner badges are a pale blue with dark blue text instead of cyan. All of the new colors meet the WCAG AA contrast standard, in light and dark mode.
- CHANGE: Alert messages, such as "Your changes have been saved," are now a light tint with darker text in the same color, a thin outline in a lighter shade of that color, and rounded corners. Dark mode has matching versions.
- CHANGE: The top bar is a deeper blue, so the envelope and ".io" in the Groups.io logo now stand out instead of blending into the bar. On phones, the browser's toolbar color matches.
- CHANGE: In forms, the text you type in a box was smaller than both its label and the help text below it. Typed text is now the same size as the label, and help text is smaller, with a little space between it and the box.
- CHANGE: Panel titles, such as General on the Settings page or Current Plan on the Billing page, were small grey all-capital labels. They are now larger headings in regular capitalization, so it's easier to see how a page is organized.
- BUGFIX: In dark mode, progress bars, such as the storage bar on the Billing page, had a nearly white background. It is now dark.
- BUGFIX: In dark mode, the highlighted item in drop-down menus had low-contrast text. It now uses a darker blue that is easier to read.
- BUGFIX: In the group sidebar, the highlight on the first and last items of the Subscription, Admin, Membership, Preferences and Subgroups menus had rounded corners, and those menus were drawn as faint white boxes. The highlights are now square and the menus sit flat in the sidebar.
- BUGFIX: The Home item in the group sidebar wasn't highlighted when you were on the group's home page. It now is.
- BUGFIX: In dark mode, outlined green, blue and red buttons, such as Will Attend and Will Not Attend on event pages, had dark text that was hard to read against the dark background. They now use lighter text and a brighter outline, and fill in with color when you hover over them.
- BUGFIX: Outlined orange buttons, such as Not Sure on event pages, had pale orange text that was hard to read on a white background. The text is now dark brown, and hovering shades the button a light orange instead of filling it with orange behind white text.
- BUGFIX: Green, red, orange and blue buttons that couldn't be clicked were drawn in a different shade than the rest of the site, such as yellow instead of orange. This included your current response on event pages. They now match the site's colors.
- BUGFIX: Menus that open upward, such as the Actions menu on the Members page, could open with their top items hidden under the bar at the top of the page. This happened when the list was short, for example after filtering the Members page down to one member, and it hid the Remove item. These menus now open downward when there isn't room for them below the top bar. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41469

Design & Accessibility
- BUGFIX: When using VoiceOver on an iPhone or iPad, some key presses caused an error, and the site's keyboard shortcuts didn't respond to them. Those key presses now work normally.
- NEW: We've made a large round of accessibility improvements across the website, to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standard. People who use a keyboard, a screen reader, zoom, or high-contrast settings should find the site much easier to use. An updated accessibility conformance report (VPAT) is available on request. The changes below are the ones you're most likely to notice.
- CHANGE: Every page now has a "Skip to main content" link as its first item, which appears when you press Tab. Pages are announced to screen readers when you move between them, and each page has a main heading that names it.
- CHANGE: Everything on the site can now be used with a keyboard alone, including menus, dialogs, the message editor's image and attachment tools, file and photo actions, database tables, calendar events, chat, polls, map markers, and analytics charts. When you close a dialog or menu, the cursor goes back to where you were instead of to the top of the page. Buttons, icons, and form fields all have names that screen readers read out.
- CHANGE: Pressing Tab to a button now shows a clear blue-and-white ring around it, so you can always see where you are. It appears only when you use the keyboard, not when you click.
